A Mayo Secondary School teacher has expressed concerns that students who sit the Leaving Cert written exams this year will be locked out of third level education for a year.

The exams have been cancelled and replaced with calculated grades, which will be estimated by teachers.

However, students will have the option of sitting a written exam at a later date.

Ballyhaunis Community School teacher Paul Lawless believes the penalty for taking a written exam is too high.
