A house was extensively damaged by fire in Ballinrobe in the early hours of yesterday (Wed) morning.
Gardai are treating the incident as criminal damage by fire and investigations are underway.
At about 2am yesterday (Wed) morning gardai were alerted to the fire in a house at Church View in the town.
The house was unoccupied at the time and no one was injured.
Mayo Fire Brigade and the gardai attended the scene.
The fire started in the front room of the house and significantly damaged the property.
It is a local authority house and Mayo county council staff secured the premises after garda forensic investigations at the scene were carried out.
Gardai Supt Gabriel Moran told Midwest News today that investigation is continuing as the fire is being treated as a criminal damage offence.
He appealed to anyone who may have been in the Church View area of Ballinrobe late on Monday (28th April) night into yesterday morning(29th April) and who may have noticed anything suspicious to contact the gardai.
