A number of councillors from the West are bidding for seats on the Seanad's Industrial & Commercial panel.
34 candidates are in the mix, with 9 seats to be filled on this panel.
Mayo Councillor Patsy O'Brien is running as an Independent candidate, as is Roscommon Councillor Nigel Dineen.
After the first count today, Patsy O'Brien is on 20,000 votes - well short of the quota of 113,501.
Councillor Dineen is on 35,000 votes.
Galway's Niall O'Tuathaill is polling very well on 88,000 votes, while Galway city councillor Ollie Crowe of FF is on 64,000 and Independent Galway County Councillor Pat Hynes has just 17,000 votes.
Over half of the seats in the new Seanad have now been filled, while 11 Senators will be appointed by the new Taoiseach.
