Third-level students who have paid upfront for accommodation that they cannot now access due to Covid-19 need to be refunded immediately.

That's according to Mayo Sinn Fein TD Rose Conway-Walsh, who says she's been contacted on this issue by a number of students and their parents.

Deputy Conway-Walsh says some colleges and private landlords are providing refunds, but others are not, and she claims a uniform approach is needed in terms of granting refunds to students who had to leave their accommodation early.

The Sinn Fein TD is also calling on the Ministers for Education and Housing to provide clarity on the issue.
