Galway West deputy Eamon O’Cuiv took to twitter yesterday to express his concern about what he termed “ disturbing reports from Achill of people travelling to the area, failing to observe social distancing and putting local people at risk”.
The Fianna Fail deputy added “I have heard similar reports from Connemara.
I would appeal to people-respect local communities and keep your distance-that includes when in shops and outside”.
Speaking to Midwest News today the deputy said people from urban areas who have flocked to the West of Ireland during the coronavirus pandemic must adhere strictly to social distancing.
He expressed concern that people coming from highly infected areas like Dublin to holiday homes in the West are not all keeping the necessary distance in public areas.
Deputy O’Cuiv insists that beaches and parks should remain open provided people practice social distancing.
