The 2020 Castlebar International Four Day Walking Festival has been cancelled.
The annual event, takes place in July, and is one of the country’s longest running walking festivals.
In 2001, after 34 years of walking, the event was cancelled in the midst of the Foot and Mouth crisis and bounced back bigger and stronger since then. It is hoped the same will happen in 2021.
The festival attracts international walkers of all ages and the organising committee felt walkers needed to know where they stood regarding their plans and preparations.
The President of the Castlebar Four Day Waking Festival is Mick Baynes. Mick is also Tourism Officer with Mayo county council in Castlebar and he told Midwest News today that the committee appreciates that the advice of the medical experts in the present Covid-19 outbreak is paramount and that the committee is determined to play its part in the international attempt to “flatten the curve.”
