A homeless charity has helped find accommodation for 39 people who were living in Direct Provision in Ballyhaunis last year.
Depaul worked with families and individuals who had been granted legal status to remain in Ireland, and helped them begin to integrate into local communities.
The charity helped source move-on accommodation for 13 adults and 26 children who had been in direct provision at the Old Convent in Ballyhaunis.
The Old Convent accommodates 245 residents, making it the 5th largest direction provision centre in Ireland.
CEO of Depaul David Carroll says there are challenges in sourcing accommodation for everyone in the current housing market, but those leaving direct provision centres face particular challenges, including language difficulties and large amounts of paperwork.
He says those moving on from direct provision face a lot of challenges, and could slip easily into rough sleeping.....
