The Mayo Stages Rally takes place around Castlebar this Sunday, with hundreds of motorsport fans expected in the county town for the event, which returns after an 11-year gap.
The Mayo rally is part of the new season of the National Rally Championship, and features four national rally champions, while there's also local involvement in the event.
The Mayo Road Safety Working Group is urging rally fans to respect other road users.
Councillor Damien Ryan, Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council's Roads & Transportation special policy committee, says these events unfortunately attract a small number of boy and girl racers, and says it's important to promote road safety to this "at-risk" group who follow the sport.
Councillor Ryan says the Mayo stages rally is a very popular event, but is urging those attending to watch the stages from safety areas, and to obey the instructions of the stewards on duty.
