Galway Gardaí are advising the public not to travel unless absolutely necessary after a high rise vehicle was blow off the road in Connemara.

The incident occurred earlier on this afternoon on the N59 near Shaughnessys bridge at Maam Cross in Connemara.

An articulated lorry was driving through the Maam Valley when it was blown over and off the road.

Midwest News understands the driver didn't sustain any serious injuries.

A Status Red warning in Galway has been replaced by a Status Orange alert but gusts remain high.
