Mayo-based Minister Michael Ring says it's now up to Sinn Fein leader Mary Lou McDonald to form a Government of the left, following the general election, while the Independents also have a role to play in the formation of a new Government.
Following a lengthy parliamentary party meeting yesterday evening, Fine Gael has decided to prepare for opposition in the next Dáil.
A number of TDs said they don't want to enter a grand coalition with Fianna Fáil, and Fine Gael will step back from government negotiations, while Taoiseach Leo Varadker didn't rule out a coalition with FF, as a last resort.
The cabinet meets this evening for the first time since the election and will stay on until a new government is formed.
