A couple earning 25,000 euro a year between them, do not qualify to get on a local authority housing list and so do not qualify for local authority / social housing in Mayo. That’s according to the Cathaoirleach of Castlebar Municipal District Michael Kilcoyne.
At Monday’s monthly meeting of Mayo County Council, the Independent councillor’s motion to have the have the income limit to qualify for social housing raised, was carried by councillors and he says he is now waiting to see who the next Minister for Housing is, to insist that the limit is raised. He argues that the income limit to qualify for social housing on the East coast is higher and says the situation is wrong and must be changed.
Cathaoirleach Kilcoyne has been speaking to Midwest News.
