Gardai across counties Mayo, Roscommon and Sligo are urging extreme caution on roads this morning, following overnight snow, sleet and ice.

Dangerous road conditions are reported across the region - with sleet and black ice causing problems for motorists in the Castlebar and Claremorris areas.

There's been a heavy snow shower since 7am in Westport, while motorists in the Ballina area are dealing with sleet and ice.

In Erris, roads are in a dangerous condition with slush and hailstones causing problems, while in the Castlerea and Roscommon areas, snow, sleet and ice are all posing dangers for drivers.

Ballymote Gardai are also reporting icy conditions across parts of Co Sligo.

Motorists are advised to take extreme caution this morning, slow down and avoid any harsh braking.
