A yellow wind alert is now in place across the country this morning, with a more severe Orange wind warning coming into effect in Mayo and Donegal from 12 noon until 4pm this afternoon, and in Galway from 1-6pm.
Met Eireann is advising of gusts of up to 120 km/h in these three counties, in advance of the arrival of Storm Ciara tomorrow.
A status yellow rainfall warning also comes into effect from 12-3pm this afternoon, with a spell of heavy rain expected, highest in the west and northwest.
Due to the weather warnings, the Flood Action Plan has been activated for Crossmolina due to potential heavy rainfall and high water levels in the River Deel.
Also, the R313 Belmullet to Blacksod road was closed for a number of hours early this morning, and will be closed again from 3am-10am tomorrow morning with local diversions in place, due to anticipated tidal flooding.
Mayo County Council says a number of further road closures are possible in the West Mayo area, due to the expected arrival of Storm Ciara tonight, allied with high tide and storm surge on the Mayo coast expected at 6am on Sunday morning.
