The action group campaigning for improvements to the R312 road between Castlebar and Erris have expressed disappointment at the funding being provided under Mayo County Council's capital programme over the next 3 years.

Under the capital programme for regional roads, €450,000 has been allocated for the R312 this year and €950,000 for 2021, with no allocation for 2022.

However, campaigners say the bulk of this funding will be needed just to replace the bridge and realign a section of road at Glenisland.

This road was listed as a number one priority by Mayo County Council several years ago, but local campaigners are disappointed with the funding allocated in the capital programme, and are meeting with Minister Michael Ring this weekend to discuss the matter.
