The sod will be turned this afternoon on a new 6 million euro Hospice Unit in Roscommon.

When completed, the new facility will consist of Day Care, Community Care and an eight bed in-patient unit providing respite and end-of- life- services.

The new hospice unit is being built on a site close to Roscommon University Hospital, and the official sod turning ceremony gets underway at 2pm.

The construction of a new hospice in Roscommon, gets underway just months after the completion of the new Mayo Hospice Unit in Castlebar, and it is on track to be open to patients before the summer.

Both units have received extensive support from community fund raising events held over many years.
