Gardaí in Ballinrobe are investigating the vandalism of a tractor on a farm in the Claremorris area on Saturday afternoon last.
Extensive damage, to the value of 2,500 euro, is reported to have been caused to a Massey Fergusson 365 tractor on a farm in Frenchbrook.
The front window, headlamps and the glass on one of the doors of the tractor was smashed.
The incident occurred at approximately 4pm on Saturday afternoon (28 December).
The owner of the vehicle, Mark Burke, told the Farmers Journal that he has no idea why the tractor was vandalised.
He explained that his nephew was in the house when a van came into the yard on Saturday afternoon. He thought it was a neighbour that they were expecting so he didn't go out.
The vandals upturned nearby bins also.
It’s thought that the incident may have been an attempted theft.
A white van was reportedly seen in the area at the time and gardaí are examining CCTV footage from a nearby school. Investigations into the incident are continuing.
