Following a fundraising campaign, 21 new "buddy beds" have been provided at the Paediatric Unit of Sligo University Hospital.

Buddy beds are special chairs that convert to comfortable beds, allowing for parents of a sick child to rest, while staying overnight.

A fundraising campaign started last December, and thanks to a number of individual donations, and support from local organisations, clubs, schools and the Friends of Sligo University Hospital, the buddy beds are now available for parents and family members to rest while staying near the patient.

The hospital's General Manager Grainne McCann has thanked all who raised funds for the campaign, and says the beds are a welcome addition that will provide a level of comfort for families of sick children.
