Ballinrobe in not a disability friendly town with poor access on footpaths for people in wheelchairs and with prams.
That's the view of local Fine Gael councillor Patsy O'Brien.
He raised the issue at the monthly Claremorris/ Swinford Municipal District and he called on council management to explore a national scheme that is assisting local authorities to repair footpaths.
He cited again a scheme that is in operation in counties in the east of the country , where IPB insurance provides funding for footpaths in an effort to reduce accidents and subsequent insurance claims against a local authority.
Council officials explained that under the new Traffic Management Plan forBallinrobe- that footfall through the town is incorporated in that plan.
Cllr O'Brien said that was welcome news, but insisted works need to get underway immediately to address the problems.
