A 68-year-old man has been sentenced to four years in prison for killing a Galway athlete over two years ago.

Noel Lenihan from Cardinal Cushing Road, Mervue, Galway had been charged with the murder of 38-year old Christopher McGrath on 12 March 2017.

He pleaded guilty to manslaughter and that plea was accepted by the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Mr Justice Michael White said he accepted Mr Lenihan was in fear that night, but felt he was minimising the amount of force used.
