Strandhill in Sligo has been named as the Irish winner of the 2019 EDEN - European Destination of Excellence Award.
Of the four Irish destinations shortlisted, Strandhill was named Best Health & Wellbeing Tourism Destination in Ireland.
The award goes to Strandhill Community Development Association for the best emerging destination that promotes sustainable tourism by using health and well-being assets that are characteristic of their region, to grow visitor numbers.
Fáilte Ireland made the announcement at a ceremony on Wednesday in Sligo, after EDEN judges visited Strandhill earlier this month.
The EDEN awards are held every two years in 29 members states, and Strandhill has been named the Ireland winner for 2019, as the best place for a health and wellbeing holiday.
The Great Western Greenway in Mayo was a previous winner of the EDEN award.
