Roscommon Gardai are appealing for witnesses after a break-in at the home of an elderly couple in Ballaghadereen.

An elderly resident in the Kilcolman Estate noticed noises while watching TV last Saturday at 8:40pm.

The intruder has been described as a male in his late teens to early twenties, about 6ft tall, thin built and with a local accent.

He was wearing dark clothing and footwear, including a black woolly hat.

The bottom half of his face was covered up with a scarf.

One of the elderly residents was watching television when he heard noises in the house.

When he went to investigate he met a young man in the hallway.

When he asked the intruder what he was doing in his house he replied asking what he was doing there.

When the man went to phone Gardai the intruder went into a rear room and climbed out the window.

At the same time a second intruder was heard climbing out an adjoining rear window and leaving the house.

Anyone who spotted the male and his accomplice or noticed suspicious activity in the area between 8 and 9pm can confidentially ring the Gardai on 1800 666 111.
