Speaking at the signing of the contract, the CEO of Mayo County Council Peter Hynes said this is the biggest single infrastructural investment ever undertaken in Mayo, and will transform the landscape of the county.
When completed, he said the road will link Castlebar and Westport into a single cluster- which will be on a par with growth centres identified in the current National Planning Framework, and this cluster will encourage investment into the county.
Mr Hynes said the signing of the contract is a step towards the Westport-Castlebar cluster becoming a reality.
Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council, Westport-based Fianna Fail Councillor Brendan Mulroy has also welcomed the signing of the contract for the new N5 road, which he says, will signficantly reduce the journey time from Dublin to Westport....
