Commuters won't have to start confirming all of their journeys but Irish Rail says it is looking at adding more 'pre-book only' services.

Passenger numbers are currently at record levels causing overcrowding on a number of routes, including the Mayo to Dublin line, but more carriages are not expected for another two years at least.

Barry Kenny from Irish Rail says they already have some services such as on All Ireland Final days, where a ticket is required in advance.
