The CEO of Roscommon County Council is awaiting the results of a report he commissioned into fire services in the Castlerea area, before making any decision on the reopening of the Castlerea Fire Station.

That's according to the Cathaoirleach of Roscommon County Council Paschal Fitzmaurice who discussed the matter with the CEO Eugene Cummins yesterday, ahead of the monthly meeting of the council.

Earlier in the day, council management had met with fire personnel from Castlerea, where they were informed that a new report has been commissioned into fire services in the area.

Councillor Fitzmaurice says the Council CEO is waiting on the results of that report before making a final decision in relation to the fire station, which has been closed for almost three years.

While the decision will ultimately be made by the CEO, Councillor Fitzmaurice says he wants to see the station reopened
