4.3 million euro in funding has been announced today for county Mayo under the government’s national Rural Water Programme for this year.
A number of group schemes across the county have secured funding under today’s announcement, however, there are 78 households in Kilmurry, outside Crossmolina, who are particularly delighted with the allocation, as they are now on course to secure a group water scheme after three decades campaigning for one.
The Kilmurry group water scheme has secured 845,000 euro today, and it is already well advanced in planning for the urgently required scheme.
Due to the local terrain, the cost per household of connecting to a group water scheme has for years made it beyond the reach of most householders in the area. The grant subsidy per house was increased last year, and that in effect gave the green light for the establishment of the scheme.
Local Fine Gael Senator Michelle Mulherin has been telling Midwest News about the further welcome news today for Kilmurry.
