For safety reasons it is vital that Mayo county council provides a footpath in the south Mayo village of Glencorrib between the local national school and the community pitch. That’s the strong view of local Fine Gael councillor Patsy O’Brien.
He raised the issue at the monthly Claremorris/ Swinford Municipal District meeting.
He explained the danger traffic poses to school children regularly walking from the school to the pitch along a busy road.
In addition he said the speed limit through the exceptionally long village has been reduced in length recently by the TII (Transport Infrastructure Ireland), adding to the traffic hazard, in his opinion.
He called for a new footpath to be included in the village enhancement plan for Glencorrib
