The Irish government has applied to include the Western region in a major European transport network.
Ireland made the application for the Western Arc Region, stretching from Kerry to Donegal, to be part of the European Commission’s Ten-T core network.
The project offers between 10-20% funding to develop major infrastructural projects across the EU.
A review of the project has been brought forward two years to 2021, in the context of Brexit.
Galway East TD Sean Canney has praised the reinstatement of the Western corridor to the Ten-T application.
