It’s a “festival of football” this weekend in Castlebar as Mayo face Donegal in the Super 8s in Elverys McHale Park at 6pm, with a place in the All Ireland semi finals up for grabs. Gates will open at three, and fans will be provided with musical entertainment, with Pat & Patsy from Goats Don’t Shave, Davy Carton of the Saw Doctors and Mayo's Frank McCaffrey.
In addition there will be busking on the streets of Castlebar throughout the day and the Town Band will be performing at 2pm, as in excess of 30,000 football fans start to arrive for the big game.
Castlebar publican and long time supporter of Mayo Football Mick Byrne told Midwest News he's confident Mayo can beat Donegal, and he says there’s growing excitement locally about the game.
Mick Banes is the Tourism Officer in Castlebar and he says the green and red flags and bunting add to the atmosphere when people arrive on Saturday. He described this festival of football on Saturday as the biggest festival for some time in the county town

On the streets of Castlebar Community Donegal native, garda Mick Toland was, as usual on his bike patrolling, but he’d commit no further than saying it’s a hard game to call.
