Green party leader Eamonn Ryan wants Achill's Saoirse McHugh to contest the Seanad by-elections for the party.
McHugh impressed for the Green’s in the European elections and missed out on a seat in the Midlands North-West constituency after votes were transferred.
Ryan told the Irish examiner that he want McHugh to run in any Seanad race after the Oireachtas summer recess ends in September, saying she is the future of the party.
This comes as the party announced a 60-per-cent increase in the Party's membership ahead of its National Convention in Dublin today.
Members will reflect on their successful local and European elections, in which 37 councillors and two MEPs were elected.
Deputy Ryan says they now need to focus on the next general election.
