To celebrate the 242nd anniversary of the birth of Admiral William Brown of Foxford, a model of his famous ship “Hercules” will go on exhibition in the town’s Admiral Brown Museum from Friday next.
Admiral Brown, a native of Foxford, was the founder of the Argentine navy, and his is held in high esteem in both Argentina and in county Mayo.
The model ship has been constructed by a Buenos Aires based engineer Luis Mignone who visited Foxford two years ago and was hugely impressed by the memorials already in place to the Admiral in his native town.
On Friday next, the model ship will be officially unveiled by the Argentine Ambassador to Ireland Laura Bernal.
Celebrations to mark the 242nd anniversary of the birth of the Admiral, are open to everyone in the community and will include a coffee reception at the Foxford Sports and Leisure Complex from 11am, the celebration of Mass in St Michael’s Church at 12 noon , an official ceremony at the Admiral Brown Monument and the unveiling of the model ship.
