A public meeting will be held in Ballycroy tonight at 8.30 pm to try and save the local playschool in the north Mayo village.
Due to falling numbers of children attending the Naonra and after-school club, the facility is at imminent risk of closure, according to its operating committee.
About 10 children currently attend the playschool, but most of these will start primary school in September, leaving just 4 in the Naonra, which is not sustainable.
This also means the jobs of two fulltime childcare workers at the facility are at risk.
The local committee believes the Government's policy on funding community childcare facilities should be different in such rural areas, than in urban centres, and says the current policy is not fit for purpose.
