The proposed Community Car scheme is vital for rural communities. That’s the view of Aontu election candidate in the Swinford area, Tommy Horan.
The Community Car scheme would allow local drivers to run a community service bringing people to shops, post offices or the local pub, and users of the scheme would make a donation to the driver’s costs.
Mr Horan told Midwest News today that there are many people living in rural areas that feel lonely and isolated and are not getting out of their houses. He says a local scheme would offer these people an opportunity to get out to their local GP, hospital, library or shop and reduce the risk of isolation and depression.
