The number of patients on hospital trolleys across the country has exceeded 500 today.

The Irish Nurses & Midwives Organisation is reporting 503 patients on trolleys, with the highest number - 51 - at University Hospital Limerick.

The second most overcrowded is Galway University Hospital, with 47 patients waiting for a bed, while there are 26 patients on trolleys at Mayo University Hosptial and 24 at Sligo University Hospital.
