Cash will be available all day at both the Belmullet and Westport branches of the Bank of Ireland from Monday next.
A recent decision, had left customers in both areas unable to access cash after 12.30pm each day, with signs in the Belnullet branch advising customers who required cash transactions to travel to either Ballina or Castlebar after that time.
Local Fine Gael councillor Gerry Coyle has campaigned to have the full service restored to the Belmullet branch. He described the restricted cash times as ludicrous and accused the Bank’s Head Office of failing to understand the distance a customer would have to travel to access a branch in Castlebar or Ballina.
He told Midwest News today that he’s delighted that as of Monday next, the bank has agreed to allow cash transactions 5 days a week throughout the working day in both branches.
