A spate of break-ins occurred across county Mayo over the weekend.

 Gardai are investigating 8 separate incidents that occurred in the Claremorris/ Ballyhaunis/ Ballindine area, and 4 further burglaries in the Castlebar area.

The thieves gained entry by forcing back windows or doors in the Castlebar break-ins.

Two neighbouring houses were ransacked in Rathbawn Drive in Castlebar between 3pm and 6pm on Saturday.

In one case nothing was taken, in the other cash and jewellery were taken.

A house in Knockaphunta Park was also broken into over the weekend and another at the Curragh, Castlebar.

Up to 8 incidents were reported across east Mayo on Friday evening  with burglaries in Claremorris, Ballindine and Ballyhaunis.

Two cars were broken into at Robeen.

Gardai in Castlebar and Claremorris are investigating the incidents.
