A windfarm project, which has a construction value in the region of 60 million euro , will get underway in the Knock/Claremorris area later this month.

Despite extensive objections from locals to the development, Mayo county council granted planning permission for three chambers of turbines and that decision was later upheld by an bord pleanala.

Machinery is expected to be moved onto the sites at Magheramore, Ballykinava and Cloontooa and surrounding townlands by the middle of this month.

The developer, PWWP developments ltd, told the Western People that a total of 19 turbines, with a maximum ground to tip height of up to 157 metres will be erected within the next 12 months.
