It is with some regret I heard of the passing of one of the 'greats' of yesteryear who will be sadly missed by all who knew him ie Micksey Clarke. I'm a Past Pupil of St. Nathys College Ballaghaderreen & I received-through a WhatsApp group- a photograph of St. Nathys teams of the past. There was one of the Nathys team of 1959 who lost an All Ireland that year & Micksey of course was an outstanding member of that team. I go to Castlebar on some business & I called to Micksey in his house in Bohola & told that I had a photo of his 1959 College team so I duly transferred the photograph to his phone on WhatsApp. He was very chuffed to get the photo as he had his sitting room bedecked with old photos of football teams of the past.
I offer my sincerest Sympathies to his family & all the extended family of Micksey.

Micksey was such a lovely guy and I remember the craic all those years ago in the pub when Micksey took it on from his parents. He would always go out of his way to help others, less fortunate than him even though he would fire his shotgun at crows from inside the door of the pub which didn’t help the ears. He was a great Man Utd fan and must have been delighted to see his team beat the scousers in the FA Cup. Only say him last month and can’t believe I won’t see him again.
