  • Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a woman died following a fatal collision in Co. Galway yesterday evening.

    Shortly after 9pm a female pedestrian in her 70s was fatally injured when she was struck by a 4x4. The collision occurred on the M18 (southbound) near junction 17 at Cloughboley, Ardrahan. Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene. The injured woman was pronounced dead at short time later. The driver of the 4x4 was uninjured.

    The woman’s body has been removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Galway for a post-mortem examination. The local Coroner has been notified.

    Garda forensic collision investigators have examined the crash site and the road has since fully reopened to traffic.

  • Gardai are appealing for witnesses following a break-in to a house in Doctor’s Road, Ballyhaunis yesterday.

    Cash and Jewelry were stolen in the raid.

    The incident occurred some-time between 10am and 1pm yesterday.

  • Gardai are investigating a single vehicle collision in Loughrea in Co Galway, in which a man died yesterday.

    The collision occurred at approximately 8am yesterday morning on Barrack Street, Loughrea when a car collided with a steel barrier. The male driver, who was aged 77 years was assisted from the car by passer-bys and they performed CPR on the man.

    He was taken by ambulance to Portiuncla Hospital in Ballinasloe where he was later pronounced dead. No one else was injured in the collision.
