Westport RFC

  • Eight players from Westport RFC  have been included on the Connacht U18 Girls Squad for the 2019 Interprovincial Championships.

    A 30-player panel has been selected for the series which begins this Saturday with a clash against Leinster at Maynooth University at 2pm.

    Their sole home fixture is against Munster on Sat 24th August at The Sportsground before a trip to Queens University to face Ulster a week later.

    The squad includes Westport players Grace Browne-Moran, Eva McCormack, Chloe McGing, Mary McLoughlin, Aisling Browne, Caoimhe English McNamara, Katie Hogan and Ava Ryder. Also representing Mayo are Molly Ager and Aisling Hahessy of Claremorris Colts, Katelyn Bourke and Nina McVann of Ballina RFC.

     

     

  • Former Westport RFC player Jamie Dever has signed for Major League Rugby (MLR) side San Diego Legion.

    The 27 year old is a Westport native and has had stints with Buccaneers and Cambridge before playing rugby with Connacht between 2014 and 2017.

    He also played U20’s rugby with the Irish national team.

    The prop went to school in Rice College and spent his youth career with Westport RFC.

  • The Connacht J1A League returned today.

    Westport got off to a winning start with a 14 7 win over Tuam.

    Last season’s double Champions Connemara overcame Castlebar 13-11.

  • Two Westport women represented the Ireland U18’s rugby 7’s in the World Games in Paris.

    The Mayo News reports that both Ava Ryder and Grace Brown-Moran of Westport RFC competed for the underage Ireland 7’s team that finished as runners-up.

    Grace Brown-Moran has competed for the Irish 7’s team on three occasions and scored her first try in an Irish jersey in the course of the competition.

    Both girls will hope to represent Ireland in the upcoming 7’s tournament at the end of August.
