  • The funeral will take place in Cork later this week of Valerie Kilroy, nee French, who was found dead at her home in Westport last Friday.

    The body of the 41-year old mother-of-three was discovered by Gardai at her home in Kilbree, Westport and her husband James has since been charged with her murder.

    Mr Kilroy was brought before a special sitting of Castlebar District Court on Sunday and was remanded in custody to Harristown Court in Castlerea next Friday.

    Valerie French Kilroy ,a HSE occupational therapist, was formerly from Leap, Co Cork.

    Her Funeral Service will take place in St Fachtna's Church of Ireland Cathedral in Rosscarberry, Co Cork on Thursday at 2.30pm, with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

    She's survived by her husband and three children, her mother, brother, three sisters, and extended family.

     

  • Gardai are continuing to question a man in his forties in connection with the death of a woman in Co. Mayo.

    The woman has been named locally as Valerie Kilroy, a 41-year-old mother-of-three.

    Her body was found at a house in the Kilbree area of Westport yesterday morning and the scene remain sealed off this afternoon.

    A post-mortem examination is being carried out today to establish the circumstances around the woman's death.

    The arrested man remains in custody at Castlebar Garda Station.

    Gardai say they are not looking for anyone else in relation to the death.

    Local independent councillor Christy Hyland says there is a huge sense of shock and sadness in the area.
