  • Over 32,000 people in Mayo in receipt of social welfare supports will see an increase in their payment over the coming week.

    This follows the announcements in Budget 2019 to increase payments for pensioners, widows, single parents, those with a disability and for jobseekers.

    There's a €5 weekly increase in most social welfare allowances, and Mayo-based Minister Michael Ring says the increases will kick in over the coming days....

    In terms of social welfare, rates are to be maintained in 2021.

    Child benefit increases by 5 euro for children over 12, and €2 for children under 12.

    The Carers Support grant is up by €150 to €1850 per year.

    There's a €5 increase in the living alone allowance, and the fuel allowance is up €3.50 a week to €28.

    The Christmas bonus is to be paid to those on the Pandemic Unemployment Payment , while self employed people on the PUP can take up some freelance work and not lose their benefit

    The planned pension age increase in Jan 2021 WON'T proceed.

     

     

     

  • Sole traders who took up the Pandemic Unemployment Payment during lockdown may be eligible for a new social welfare payment.

    Up to a thousand euro can be claimed by self-employed workers who came off the payment from May 17th under the Enterprise Support Grant programme.

    12 million euro has been initially set aside.

    Minister for Social Protection Heather Humphreys says she's aiming to keep small enterprises in business.
