  • Legendary comedian Brendan Grace has died at the age of 68, following a short battle with lung cancer.

    A Dublin native, Brendan Grace began his career in entertainment as a singer, but later turned to comedy, becoming well-known for characters such as Bottler and the Father of the Bride.

    In latter years, he divided his time between Ireland and the US.

    He had suffered ill health in recent years, but continued to tour and perform.

    He had been due to tour Ireland this Summer before being diagnosed with cancer.

    His family say Brendan died peacefully, and are grateful for the support from fans all over the world since his illness became public.

    Brendan Grace is survived by his wife Eileen, children, grandchildren and extended family.

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

  • Funeral arrangements have been confirmed for well-known Mayo solicitor Rory O'Connor, who's passed away at the age of 74.

    A native of Bellaghy, Charlestown, Mr O'Connor lived in Pontoon, Castlebar and practised at the firm of Garavan & O'Connor on Main Street, Castlebar since 1974.

    Tributes have been paid in legal circles on news of his passing, while a minute's silence was observed at the District Court sitting in Castlebar yesterday morning.

    A private family funeral will take place on Friday, with Funeral Mass at 11.30 in the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar, and burial afterwards in Gurteen Cemetery, Roundstone.
