new store

  • Aldi Ireland has announced plans to build a new store in Ballyhaunis.

The German discount chain will shortly submit a planning application to Mayo County Council for a new store on a site on the town's Main Street.

About 50 jobs will be created during the construction phase, with 30 permanent jobs once the store is open.

Over 100 car parking spaces will be created.

Aldi recently reached an agreement to buy a 9-acre site in the town centre, close to the Church.

Aldi already operates four stores in Co Mayo - in Castlebar, Claremorris, Ballinrobe and Belmullet, and has plans to open a store in Ballina.

  • Planning permission is being sought for an Aldi store in Ballina.

The German company has applied to Mayo County Council for permission to demolish the former Deanwood Hotel, and construct a single-storey discount foodstore on the site.

The plan also provides for 82 car parking spaces, and access from Bury St and Teeling St.

Aldi already operates stores in Ballinrobe, Claremorris and Castlebar with a new store under construction in Belmullet.

However, the Covid-19 restrictions have delayed work on the Belmullet store.
