The reopening of the scheme has been confirmed by Minister for Rural and Community Development Michael Ring.

Funding will be available under 3 measures of the programme – the Community Safety Measure; Play Areas and the First Response Support Measure.

Local Authorities and Community Groups and Organisations can apply for funding under the programme.

Minister Ring told Midwest News he is delighted to be able to reopen the scheme once again.

  • 3.2 million euro in funding has been announced for greenway developments in county Mayo.

Minister for Community and Rural Development Michael Ring says today’s funding from the department of transport will extend the Great Western Greenway between Westport and Achill, beyond Bunacurry and will also complete complete a further section of the Westport to Louisburgh greenway.

While Minister Sean Kyne has announced €2.6 million investment in the Connemara Greenway, the funding has been allocated from the National Greenway Fund which is administered by Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Shane Ross TD.

The 2.6 million euro will go towards the construction of a third section of the Clifden - Oughterard part of the Greenway, predominately between Clifden and Recess.

Minister Kyne says engagement is continuing with stakeholders, including landowners, to determine the most practical route between Dangan and Oughterard via Moycullen. The Greenway on this section will be wider given the additional numbers that will make use of the facility for commuting, to destinations such as NUIG, UHG and other workplaces, as well as for recreation.

In Mayo, Minister Ring told Midwest News that today’s announcement is in addition to a recent announcement by him of 1.5 million euro investment in the Westport to Louisburgh facility.
