  • MEP Maria Walsh calls for the EU Commission to treble Erasmus funding to increase accessibility to the graduate programme for people with disabilities.

    The Mayo MEP believes students with disabilities would be better able to avail of the graduate programme if the proper supports are put in place.

    The Midland Northwest MEP believes that giving access to people with disabilities to the programme is vital for advancing inclusivity and nurturing independence.

    She told Midwest Radio News that it is important to keep pressing disability issues with the commissioners in the EU.

  • Midlands-Northwest MEP Maria Walsh will travel to Hungary this week to take part in Budapest pride.

    The Fine Gael MEP has been outspoken about the anti-LGBTI+ law adaptations in Hungary since she took office in the European Parliament two years ago.

    While in Hungary, Ms Walsh will take part in a panel discussion on LGBTI+ rights in the EU, as will also take part in the Budapest Pride March next weekend.

  • MEP Maria Walsh has welcomed the outcome of negotiations on the EU Digital COVID Certificate.

    It was announced yesterday evening that a deal had been reached after trilogue discussions.

    MEP Walsh says this is a positive move for the EU: 


    The European Parliament has approved plans for a so-called Covid-19 passport.

    It would show whether someone's been vaccinated, tested negative or recently recovered from the virus.

    540 MEPs supported the measure, with 119 voting against and 31 abstentions.

  • Newly-elected MEP Maria Walsh is attending her first plenary session in Strasbourg this week.

    The Shrule native was elected to the European Parliament in May, alongside sitting MEPs Mairead McGuinness, Luke Ming Flanagan and Matt Carthy, to represent the 13 counties in the Midlands-Northwest constituency.

    Speaking to Midwest News, the FG MEP said yesterday was a special day as she took up her seat Strasbourg, while voting is underway today to elect a new President of the European Parliament....
