• Gardai seized more than €6,000 worth of cannabis plants and a small quantity of cannabis herb near Castlebar last Friday.

    The detection was made at around 2pm on Friday afternoon when Gardaí carried out a search of a house in Manulla.

    A man in his mid 50s was arrested in connection with the seizure and a file is now being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.


  • Dates, times and venues have been confirmed for the TP Brennan Connacht Cup and Shield Finals. 

    The cup final will take place on Sunday May 26th at Eamon Deacy Park in Galway as Manulla face Corrib Rangers with a 3pm kick off. 

    The Shield Final is fixed for Sunday May 19th at 3pm in Solar 21 Park in Castlebar as Manulla B or Knocknacarra face Killala.

    Emma Cosgrove gave Manulla a 2-1 lead but Castlebar Town equalised with the last kick of the game to force extra time. Aoife Frain go the winner for Manulla in extra time.

    Castlebar Town now go into the Shield  competition.

  • Motorists are again being advised by gardai not to leave valuables in their vehicles. In follows a spate of break-ins to parked vehicles across the county last weekend.

    Gardai are investigating thefts in Manulla, Westport and Charlestown.

    A parked van was broken into on Saturday evening at Lurga, Charlestown. The incident occurred between 3pm on Saturday and 3pm on Sunday. Power tools were taken from a red Nissan Primera van.

    A green Ford Transit van parked at Westport Leisure Centre had a window smashed between 9.30am on Saturday and 3pm on Sunday afternoon. Items taken from the van included an iPad Mini and Bluetooth headphones all stored in a nike back pack.

    On Sunday evening between 9pm and 11pm a white Volkswagen Golf parked outside Manulla Community Centre was broken into and a handbag was taken.

    Gardai believe that all three thefts may be connected to a single, highly mobile gang.

  • Castlebar gardai are advising motorists that the road between Manulla and Breaffy at Kilmacrade is closed to traffic at present.
    Emergency services are at the scene.
    It appears that a car has left the road.

  • The U18 Connaught Cup Final will be played at Milebush Park tomorrow evening at 6-30.

    Ballyheane and Manulla will compete to be crowned the underage champions of the province.

    Ballyheane postponed their Elverys Sports Super League tie against Ballina town and Manulla B postponed their Castlecourt Premier League tie against Swinford at the weekend, showing the importance of the competition to both clubs.
