    Gardai in Co Leitrim, investigating an incident of criminal damage last week in which a car was set on fire outside the home of Sligo/ Leitrim TD Martin Kenny, have arrested a man in his mid 40's today.

    He's being detained at Thurles Garda Station in Co Tipperary under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

    In the early hours of last Monday morning, a car was set alight outside Deputy Martin Kenny's  home in Aughavas, Co Leitrim - it followed a death threat the Sinn Fein TD received the previous week.

  • A man in his 40's was arrested following a public order incident in Ballyhaunis yesterday.

    The incident occurred on Main Street at about 4pm.

    Midwest News understands the man refused to wear a face mask on a bus, and subsequently refused to give his name to Gardai.

    Gardai say a man in his 40's was arrested and charged in relation to a public order incident, and is due to appear before Castlebar District Court next week.

    A man has been arrested following an attempted robbery of a bookmaker shop in Sligo Town yesterday evening.

    A male entered the premises at approximately  7pm yesterday evening and attempted to gain access to money.

    Gardai have since arrested a man in connection with the incident.

    He's being detained at Ballymote Garda Station.

     

     

  • A man has been arrested as part of the ongoing investigation into criminal damage and assaults carried out by a gang of men at a house near Strokestown, Co Roscommon last month.

    Gardai have confirmed to Midwest News that a 54 year old man was arrested in Co Mayo this morning and is being detained at Castlerea Garda Station.

    It follows an incident at a farmhouse at Falsk, Strokestown, when a gang of people stormed the property in the early hours of Sunday 16th December and assaulted a number of security guards who were guarding the property following the eviction of a family the previous week.

    Some of the security personnel were injured in the incident, while a guard dog had to be put down and two vehicles were burnt out.

    Gardai say the man arrested in Mayo this morning in connection with their investigation is being held at Castlerea Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
