• A man has been seriously injured in a road collision in Co Galway.

    He was among 8 people taken to hospital after the collision involving two cars on the Clifden Road, about 3 kilometres outside Leenane Village at around 5.15pm yesterday evening.

    Eight people were taken to University Hospital Galway, with one man seriously injured.

    The scene remained closed overnight for examination by Garda forensic collision investigators, with local diversions in place.

    Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward - particularly anyone who travelled this stretch of road between 4.45 and 6pm yesterday evening - they're asked to contact Clifden Garda Station at 095 - 22500.



  • The N59 Westport to Leenane road has reopened to traffic following a two vehicle collision at Carrowkennedy.


    The collision occurred shortly after 11am this morning and emergency services attended the scene.


    Midwest News understands that up to three people were taken to hospital.


    The extent of their injuries is currently unknown.

  • One person has been taken to Hospital with minor injuries following a two vehicle collision this afternoon between Westport and Leenane.

    The collision occurred shortly before 3pm.

    Emergency services attended the scene and the vehicles have now been towed away.
