Kilmeena

  • Farmers with lands along the banks of the Moyour River, near Kilmeena, will be left with no choice but to drain the river themselves in water levels continue to rise.

That was the strong view of Independent Westport Councillor Christie Hyland, who raised the matter at Monday’s meeting of the Westport Municipal District.

Councillor Hyland says the river is in urgent need of drainage, as there are islands forming in parts of it and there are trees and other debris blocking the water from draining.

The Westport councillor says the OPW and local authorities need to prioritise draining the Moyour once the weather clears up in the summer.
