House Fire

  • A 60-year old man died following a house fire in Galway city over the weekend.

    The fire broke out on Friday evening at a house in the Renmore area, and the man was removed to University Hospital Galway where he was later pronounced dead.

    Other occupants of the house escaped without serious injury.

    Gardai are not treating the fire as suspicious.




  • 2 Units of the Mayo Fire Service were called to a fire at house in Ballyhaunis yesterday evening.

    A passer-by spotted a glow through a window and contacted the fire service.

    The Fire Service responded within eight minutes and was able to confine the area to one room.

    An elderly lady was evacuated from the house moments before the Fire Services personnel arrived.

    The living room was severely damaged in the blaze and smoke damage has affected the entire property.

  • Fire services were called to the scene of a house fire early this morning on the outskirts of Ballyhaunis.

    Gardai and fire services attended the scene on the Tooreen road.

     One person, who was in the house at the time, was taken to hospital for observation, but is not believed to have sustained serious injuries.

    Midwest News understands there was no serious damage caused to the house.




  • The Mayo Fire Service were called to a house fire in the early hours of this morning near Bohola along the N5.

    The house was extensively damaged in the blaze.

    Smoke from the fire made driving conditions difficult earlier this morning along the N5 but it has now been brought under control.

    There was nobody injured in the blaze.

  • A woman has died after a house fire in County Galway.

    The alarm was raised at around 7 o'clock last night.

    Gardaí and Fire Services attended at the scene at Tullyvoheen in Clifden yesterday evening.

    They were called to the house at around 7 o'clock, and brought the blaze under control a short time later.

    The sole victim of the fire was a woman believed to be in her late 40s.

    Her body was located inside the house, and the scene is currently preserved for examination.

    Gardaí say foul play is not suspected at this time.
